people who have visited this beautiful city. So, what is the reason people miss
Yogyakarta? Some will say it's, of course, the warm smile of the Jogjanese’,
while others recall it as ‘just the magic of the city I guess’. You can find
out yourself, what it is that makes this city worth remembering. You can choose
from the warmth of the people, the beauty of the culture, the savory taste of
the food and the magic of the surrounding landscape. These are things that
later cause you missing this intriguing city.
Mythical Jogja
Yogyakarta, often shortly referred to as ‘Jogja’, witnessed
hundreds of years of history, and several important cultural periods in its
society. Nowadays, the city still preserves the picture of its ancient heritage
very well. From the Hindu temple that worships the God and Goddess, to the
palace of the monarchs where a beautiful mix of Moslem-Javanese can be found.
Wander around the palace (‘Keraton’ in the local language) and experience how
ancient Javanese cities looked like.
Complete the experience by tasting the sweet-savory traditional
food Gudeg. Stop over at any traditional Gudeg restaurant, which can also be
found within the complex of the palace.
After experiencing the mystics of the Mataram sultanate,
travel back in time to the ancient Javanese Hindu era. Enjoy the beauty of the
Prambanan Temple. Also, do not miss out on the tale of two lovers in the
beautiful theatrical dance show ‘Ramayana’. And watch the sunrise during an
early morning climb of the beautiful Borobudur temple complex.
